BioBank Technician

Indianapolis 17-20/hr Contract

Key Responsibilities

- Receive, log, and process incoming biological specimens according to established SOPs, ensuring accurate chain-of-custody documentation
- Aliquot, label, and prepare samples for long-term storage, including blood, tissue, serum, plasma, and other biospecimen types
- Maintain and monitor storage systems (ultra-low freezers, liquid nitrogen dewars, refrigerators) and respond promptly to temperature excursions or equipment alarms
- Accurately enter and maintain sample data in laboratory information management systems (LIMS) or biobank inventory databases, ensuring traceability of every specimen
- Retrieve and prepare samples for distribution to internal researchers or external collaborators per approved requests
- Perform quality control checks on incoming and stored specimens to verify sample integrity and adherence to specifications
- Maintain compliance with biobanking regulations, institutional review board (IRB) requirements, informed consent protocols, and relevant standards (e.g., CAP, ISBER best practices)
- Support audits and inspections by maintaining organized, accurate records and documentation
- Track inventory levels, storage capacity, and equipment maintenance schedules; report discrepancies or issues promptly
- Follow all biosafety, PPE, and hazardous waste handling protocols when working with biological materials
- Assist with process improvement initiatives to enhance sample tracking, storage efficiency, and data integrity
- Collaborate with research staff, clinical teams, and IT/data management personnel to support ongoing studies
