Senior Project Engineer

Des Moines 110K - 130K Permanent

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead and promote a culture of safety across all operations, including work performed by contractors.
  • Perform project engineering activities, including the design, procurement, installation, commissioning, and start-up of new processing equipment or systems.
  • Continuously evaluate, recommend, and implement improvements to plant processes and operating procedures.
  • Support the production of high-quality products that meet or exceed customer expectations, including participation in audits and investigations.
  • Collaborate with Environmental, Health, and Safety teams to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA, NFPA, NEC).
  • Coordinate and direct process hazard analyses, including data collection, checklist completion, and implementation of engineering change management action items.
  • Lead engineering support for Food Safety and related quality initiatives.
  • Provide technical support for Sales and Marketing teams, including customer interactions.
  • Support daily production activities by monitoring process performance, troubleshooting issues, and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Develop operating procedures and training materials for new equipment and processes.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, co-ops, and interns to promote professional development.
  • Serve as a technical resource to support plant equipment maintenance and operational reliability.
  • Assist site management in balancing workloads and provide backup support as necessary.
  • Promote effective communication across all departments to ensure project and operational success.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field required.
  • Advanced education or certification in Project Management is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in process or project engineering in the chemical-processing industry preferred.
  • At least 5 years of capital project management experience, including interfacing with contractors
