Automation Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and maintain automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and DCS platforms
• Develop, modify, and optimize control logic for process and utility equipment
• Integrate new equipment into existing control systems and ensure compatibility with plant networks and databases
• Troubleshoot and resolve automation-related issues in real time to minimize downtime
• Support commissioning, qualification, and validation activities for automated systems
• Create and maintain automation documentation, including functional specifications, wiring diagrams, and change control records
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements and increase system efficiency
• Ensure all automation systems comply with industry standards, cGMP regulations, and site-specific policies
• Provide training and technical support to operations and maintenance teams
• Participate in audits, inspections, and technical reviews as the subject matter expert for automation systems

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Computer Engineering, or related field
• 3+ years of experience in automation engineering within a manufacturing or industrial environment (pharma/biotech preferred)
• Hands-on experience with PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent) and HMI/SCADA systems
• Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, OPC, Profibus)
• Familiarity with control system life cycle management, including change control and validation in regulated environments
• Knowledge of cGMP, GAMP 5, and relevant regulatory guidelines
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or in a team setting
• Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and vendor management
