Senior Sustainability Engineer

Boston 137K - 160K Permanent

Job Responsibilities:

  • Shape and execute environmental reduction strategies across multiple company sites, translating high-level corporate commitments into concrete, practical action plans
  • Serve as the internal go-to expert on sustainability, environmental compliance, and energy management
  • Manage end-to-end sustainability projects spanning energy efficiency, waste minimization, resource optimization, and equipment modernization
  • Integrate environmental considerations into capital projects, technology transfers, and daily operations through effective change management
  • Build robust systems for sustainability data collection, KPI monitoring, reporting, and performance analysis
  • Conduct carbon footprint and environmental impact assessments across products and processes
  • Identify regulatory risks and stakeholder opportunities through structured analysis
  • Maintain compliance with applicable environmental regulations, permits, and EHS standards
  • Influence and coach leaders at all levels to drive shared accountability for sustainability outcomes

Qualifications:

  • 7–10 years in sustainability, environmental, or energy engineering — preferably in biopharmaceutical or regulated manufacturing settings
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Sustainability, or a related technical discipline
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-site sustainability or energy efficiency programs
  • Strong analytical capability with hands-on experience handling environmental datasets
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with biopharma manufacturing, lab, or R&D environments
  • Professional certification in sustainability or energy/environmental engineering
  • Hands-on experience with carbon accounting, lifecycle assessment (LCA), and science-based targets
  • Working knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 50001, or equivalent management frameworks
  • Background in project management, change management, or operational excellence methodologies
