Controls Engineer

Indianapolis 90K - 110K Permanent

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain PLC and HMI programs supporting process control and automation systems
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and controls-related equipment issues, including PLCs, VFDs, HMIs, and sensors
  • Support installation, commissioning, and startup of new equipment and automation systems
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, control system documentation, and equipment drawings
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and maintenance, to resolve issues and support continuous improvement projects
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for control systems and automation processes
  • Support preventive and predictive maintenance programs to improve equipment reliability and uptime
  • Provide technical guidance and training to operators and maintenance staff as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent work experience
  • 3-5+ years of experience in industrial automation, process control, or controls engineering
  • Hands-on experience with PLC programming and HMI development
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and control system documentation
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex systems independently
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally across engineering, operations, and maintenance teams
  • Comfortable working on-site in a manufacturing environment
